Museo dell'uomo e della natura
Interactive museum of the Forestry Carabinieri on biodiversity, in the visitor centre of the Monte Velino Nature Reserve in Magliano de’ Marsi.
Have only individual sections read aloud
About the museum
The museum opened on 19 February 2018 in the visitor centre of the Monte Velino Oriented Nature Reserve, within the Sirente-Velino Regional Park, and is run by the Forestry Carabinieri. It is named after Alfonso Alessandrini, a former head of the Corpo forestale dello Stato (State Forestry Corps).
The route is interactive and aimed at children and adults. The first section recalls the threats to nature; the next recreates the typical environment of the reserve, with rock walls and at-risk habitats. Protected species are illustrated, such as the golden eagle and the Marsican brown bear, and reintroduced species, including deer, the common raven and the griffon vulture. The last part addresses global biodiversity and the work of the CITES unit of the Carabinieri against the illegal trade in protected species. The route was developed together with the Avezzano section of the Unione Italiana Ciechi e Ipovedenti.
