About the museum
The museum is housed in the former Salesian convent in Via del Convitto, in Cannara, and tells the story of the town and its territory from its origins to the modern age.
The archaeological section is devoted to the Roman settlement of Urvinum Hortense, on the Collemancio plateau, from its foundation in the 2nd century BC until its abandonment between the 6th and 9th centuries. Among the most important pieces is a polychrome mosaic with Nilotic scenes from the baths of the settlement.
The Pinacoteca civica (civic picture gallery) holds frescoes detached in 1907 from the church of the Madonna del Latte, which fill an entire room, and works by Marcantonio Grecchi, Dono Doni and Francesco Longhi, as well as other paintings and sculptures by Umbrian artists. The visit can be completed with the excavations and the Antiquarium at Collemancio.
