About the museum
The museum was founded in Boccafossa, a village in the municipality of Torre di Mosto, on the initiative of a group of volunteers who wanted to document the origins of the community, which are linked to the land reclamation of the area. Adriano Caminotto led the promoting committee Comitato promotore per la Civiltà Contadina and collected around 2,800 items in the barchessa of the Bianchi-Marzotto company's estate.
The collection tells the story of the local rural civilisation over the course of a century, during which industrial crops such as sugar beet and tobacco were grown and, later, sunflowers, maize and soya. It includes household goods, trousseaux, machines and equipment for working the land, with an attached photographic archive.
The collections also show the ingenuity of the farmers, who adapted and modified their tools or invented new ones to meet the challenges of agriculture in those fields. Every year in July, the harvest festival (festa della mietitura) brings the large vintage farm machines on display at the entrance back into operation.
