About the museum
The Museo della Civiltà Rurale is housed in the former convent of the Dominican Fathers, a building that arose from a votive donation intended for the construction of the church of the Annunziata. The Dominicans remained there until 1809, when the monastery was closed with the suppression of the religious orders. From 1865 the building housed the Civil Hospital, then a poorhouse for beggars (mendicicomio) and finally the Asilo infantile “Greco”. Today, in addition to the museum, it also houses the municipal library “Giovanni XXIII”.
The rooms preserve the history and rural traditions of the area: utensils and tools documenting the activities carried out between the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. All working people are represented, from farmers, with tools for ploughing, breaking up the soil, reaping and harvesting, to the blacksmith, the carpenter, the saddler, the knife-grinder and the shoemaker.
