About the museum
The Padola museum in Comelico Superiore was founded on the initiative of the Regola di Padola, which decided to set it up to promote knowledge and recovery of the testimonies and ancient customs of the local Alpine communities. The decisive impetus came from the large fresco by the artist Vico Calabrò, commissioned by the Amici di Pio Topran D'Agata and unveiled on 9 August 1981.
The museum is housed in the former primary school building in the centre of the village and occupies the first and second floors. The building was recently adapted with an external ramp and a lift, so that the visit is accessible to everyone.
After a recent re-display, the route presents more than 4,000 objects divided into thematic sections. You can see tools of the most common trades, such as woodcutter, carpenter, mason, farmer, seamstress, cheesemaker and tinsmith, and a reconstruction of the main rooms of a house of times past, with the workshop and the church. The route is completed by miniatures by Alberto De Bettin and Gilberto De Martin Pinter, a room devoted to carts and a large room on the First World War in Comelico.
Each section has panels in Italian, Ladin, English and German, with a QR code linking to audio content with further information. The group that runs the museum also organises events in the area.
