About the museum
The museum is housed in Carrega Ligure, in the parish house (canonica) of the church of San Giuliano, and was opened in 1979 on the initiative of the middle school of Gavi, in collaboration with the municipality of Carrega Ligure. It was born from the wish to preserve the material memory of rural life in the upper Val Borbera, an Apennine area on the border between Piedmont, Liguria, Emilia and Lombardy.
The collection comprises about 500 tools and machines used by the peasant families of the valley: implements for processing wheat and chestnuts, which for centuries were a fundamental resource of the local economy, and household utensils.
