About the museum

The museum is in Senarega, a medieval village of the Valbrevenna in the Genoese hinterland, a few steps from the church of Santa Maria Assunta and below the rectory. It is housed in a 16th-century cowshed that for a long time performed its original function.

The two small rooms hold tools, everyday objects and handwritten sheets of the last witnesses to local rural culture. The central theme is the culture of the stable: haymaking, the production of butter and cheese, summer pasturing on the high meadows and the role of the stable as a meeting place during the winter months. The museum forms the ethnological section of the Museo a tappe dell’Alta Valle Scrivia (Stage Museum of the Upper Scrivia Valley).
