About the museum
The Museo della Fragola is located in the old rooms of the Palazzo Ducale in Parete, a building that began as a military tower and was later converted into a noble residence. It was restored in 2014–2015 and is now a venue for meetings and events. The museum opened to the public in April 2017 and is considered the first of its kind in Italy.
Parete is known as “Città della Fragola” (City of the Strawberry) because of the fruit grown in the area. The display is educational and multidisciplinary: across five rooms on the ground floor and mezzanine, the route combines science, historical information and popular content, from botany and nutrition to history and economics, and on to research and the market. A small section explores the inspiration the strawberry has provided in art, music, fashion and film.
The museum is linked to the association La Tenda, which organises the Festa della Fragola (Strawberry Festival) every year, with guided visits to the museum during the festival.
