About the museum
The museum was established in 2007 by the municipality of Ragogna as part of an Interreg Italy–Austria project, with contributions from the provinces of Udine and Pordenone, the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the European Union. It is run by the association Gruppo Storico Friuli Collinare, while the historical content is curated by the historian Marco Pascoli.
The route is devoted to the First World War in the Friuli Collinare and in particular to the Battle of the Tagliamento. The first section consists of fourteen illustrated panels and a large relief model of the battlefield as it looked on 31 October 1917. The second presents about ten information points, photo galleries of war remains and graffiti, biographies and reproductions of documents. A third section covers the Risorgimento, the colonial wars and the Second World War.
The collections include more than a thousand catalogued objects, most of them recovered from the battlefields or donated by soldiers' families. The museum also has a documentary archive, a specialist library open to the public, a multimedia room and a conference room. It is the starting point for four routes of the thematic park “I luoghi della Grande Guerra nel Friuli Collinare”.
