About the museum
The museum tells the story of the workshop of the luthier Luigi Embergher (1856–1943), whose mandolins reached distant markets, from Moscow to Brazil. After him, the brand and the instruments were inherited in 1938 by his pupil Domenico Cerrone, who extended production to violins and guitars.
The workshop, with more than fifteen workers, produced about a hundred instruments a month and specialised in the Roman mandolin, which differs from the Neapolitan type in its neck and in its four double courses of strings. The museum also recalls the wool industry of Arpino, which declined after Italian unification, with equipment from the old Diodati woollen mill.
The museum is housed in the Casa Felluca-Merolle in the historic centre. Its display cases hold almost three hundred pieces: machinery, moulds, tools, finished and unfinished instruments, drawings, photographs, letters and diplomas, which show the stages of construction from the rough body to the finish.
