About the museum
The Torre di Cicerone stands on the acropolis of Arpino, in the fortified village of Civitavecchia, in a commanding position above the town centre and surrounded by ancient megalithic walls. The area is traditionally linked to the family of Cicero, but the building is described as a medieval tower “detta di Cicerone” (known as Cicero’s), and 19th-century investigations found no remains of residential buildings there.
The tower has a square plan of about 16 metres per side, with a sloping wall on the south-east side. An external walkway leads to the entrance at the intermediate level. On the main floor (piano nobile) there is an educational display on the history of the monument and of the territory of Arpino. The monument is among the State’s luoghi della cultura (cultural sites), and the site can be visited on request.
