About the museum
The Mulino Cati stands at Ponte di Verzuno, in the municipality of Camugnano, along the Limentra stream. The original core of the building dates back to the 17th century. The complex, made up of several farm buildings, was restored by the municipality of Camugnano with funds from the 2009–2013 Rural Development Plan and is now run by the Gruppo Studi Cesare Mattei.
Water from the Limentra, diverted by a weir about 700 m upstream, drives a turbine that powers the milling system. The automated grain-processing system, with bucket elevators and screw conveyors, was built after 1958 and was unusual among the mills of the area.
The guided route tells the story of the grain cycle, the production of flour and of mountain bread (pane montanaro) baked in a wood-fired oven. It then continues outside with the water supply system and the educational garden with heritage fruits and wild herbs. The same complex also houses the electromeopathy section of the Museo Cesare Mattei, an inn (locanda) and an info point.
