About the museum

The Museo della Stampa Remondini is on the ground floor of Palazzo Sturm, a residence built around the middle of the 18th century for the silk merchant and industrialist Vincenzo Ferrari to a design by Daniello Bernardi. The palace has more than seventy rooms on seven levels and painted decorations by Giorgio Anselmi of 1765 with mythological and allegorical subjects; in 1943 it was donated to the Comune di Bassano del Grappa by Baron Giovanni Battista Sturm von Hirschfeld.

The museum, opened to the public in 2007, is devoted to the printing and engraving of the Remondini, a family of printers from Bassano who, between the 17th and 19th centuries, built an industrial colossus of images, focusing on originality, variety and export. Their engravings spread iconographic models that helped give an almost universal visual form to stories, places and cults.

The route illustrates all aspects of the Remondini industrial phenomenon through books, decorated papers, popular prints, games, optical views, and etchings and woodcuts by great Italian and European engravers such as Andrea Mantegna, Albrecht Dürer, Lucas van Leyden, Marcantonio Raimondi, Ugo da Carpi and Jacques Callot. On the piano nobile (main floor) of the palace is also the Museo della Ceramica Giuseppe Roi.
