About the museum
The museum was founded in 2000 under the name Studio per le Arti della Stampa and has been called the Museo delle Arti della Stampa since 2021. It is located on the ground floor of Palazzo Pianetti Vecchio, a 16th-century building that was first a convent of Poor Clares, then the residence of the Pianetti family, and later the premises of the Duilio Diotallevi print shop.
In Jesi the first printing press was active in 1472. The exhibition route traces the history of the printed book, from incunabula and Aldine editions to volumes up to the 19th century. A collection of presses and machines, from the 18th-century wooden press to steam-powered machinery, illustrates the evolution of printing techniques.
The museum also holds archives of local printing firms, 20th-century posters and a small specialised library. Some working presses are used for teaching workshops in woodcut, intaglio printing and lithography.
