About the museum

The museum displays the art collections of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi, established in 1992 when the banking activity was separated from the philanthropic activity of the Cassa di Risparmio, founded in 1844. It is housed in Palazzo Bisaccioni, in Piazza Colocci, in the historic centre of Jesi: a building with an 18th-century look but of medieval origin, with traces of Renaissance decoration, built on a site once occupied by a Roman theatre.

The collections consist mainly of paintings from the 16th to the 18th century and 20th-century works by artists born in Jesi and the Marche, with numerous works by Domenico Luigi Valeri. Among the old works are the Salvator Mundi by Guercino, The Spinners (Le filatrici) by Francesco Bassano and The Five Senses (I cinque sensi) by Carlo Cignani.

On the ground floor are the exhibition spaces and a section devoted to Valeri; on the first floor is the gallery of old art; on the second floor, the 20th-century works. In the basement rooms visitors can see the library, the historical and photographic archive, and the strongroom (caveau) with a collection of lire coins and banknotes.
