About the museum
The museum is at the entrance to the historic centre of Roccastrada, near the Torre dell’Orologio, and is set into the trachyte rock on which the village stands. It documents and promotes the wine culture of the Colline Metallifere, with particular attention to the DOCG wine Monteregio di Massa Marittima.
The display occupies two floors. On the upper floor, panels accompanied by prints, paintings, period photographs and notarial documents illustrate rural life in the area and wine production. On the lower floor, in an atmospheric cellar carved into the rock, casks, demijohns, vats and other viticulture objects are displayed, together with tools for working stone and equipment from mining activity. There is also a room with a selection of local wines and a panoramic terrace over the Maremma.
The museum also houses a tourist information point for the Maremma Nord area and is regarded as one of the gateways to the Colline Metallifere park.
