About the museum
The museum grew out of the passion of Silvano Perseguiti, a retired craftsman who assembled a private collection of almost three hundred corking machines. The oldest date back to the late 17th century, and the collection reaches as far as models from the early 20th century (sources indicate examples up to the 1950s).
The machines come from France, Belgium, Germany and Italy; the most prized for the quality of their workmanship are the Italian ones, many of which were used in the countryside around Castelnovo di Sotto. Alongside the corking machines are tools for bottling, washing, gassing, wire-caging (gabbiettare) and labelling, used for traditional wines such as Lambrusco and Malvasia.
Electric motors demonstrate how the machines work, and some figures reconstruct scenes such as grape treading and cheese-making.
