About the museum
The Museo di Storia Naturale del Territorio is located in Serra San Quirico, in the Santa Lucia monastic complex, which also houses the headquarters and Infopoint of the Parco naturale regionale Gola della Rossa e di Frasassi, the Museo Premio Ermanno Casoli and the Cartoteca Storica Regionale delle Marche.
The route tells the story of the evolution of the Park area through palaeontology, archaeology, geology and natural sciences. Reconstructions of habitats and prehistoric finds show the long path of humans in this territory, from the Palaeolithic through the Neolithic to the Bronze Age.
A rich collection of fossils brings to light the fauna embedded in the rock strata, while a diorama reconstructs the Upper Jurassic marine environment in which the ichthyosaur lived, the most important fossil found in the Park area. The last section reconstructs the natural habitats of the protected area to illustrate its extraordinary biodiversity.
