About the museum
The MUDIAC is the dispersed museum of contemporary art in Catanzaro. It was presented to the city in 2022 on the initiative of the association Altrove, in collaboration with the Direzione generale creatività contemporanea (Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity) of the Ministero della Cultura (Ministry of Culture). It enhances the permanent public artworks left in the urban space by the Altrove project (2014–2019), in which Italian and international artists took part.
The museum has no closed venue: the works are spread across the city’s neighborhoods and streets, and the routes run through a defined public area that is freely accessible. The project aims to enhance existing works, regenerate places and promote contemporary creativity, with workshops for the community and a web platform with an urban observatory.
Four itineraries are offered: the Centro storico (historic centre, about 2 hours, 2 km), the Città nuova (new town, about 1 hour, 1 km), the Città lineare, from the peaks to the slopes of the three hills (about 2 hours, 20 km), and Verso il mare (towards the sea), with the abstract art of the working-class neighborhoods (about 1 hour, 10 km). Artists on the route include Gonzalo Borondo, Domenico Romeo and 3TTMAN.
