Museo dell’Adige
Small ethnographic museum in Pescantina on work and traditions linked to the River Adige, next to the Duomo di San Lorenzo.
Have only individual sections read aloud
About the museum
The museum tells the story of the work and traditions of the communities that lived along the Adige, when the river was a source of labour and wealth. It is housed in a small deconsecrated church next to the Duomo di San Lorenzo in Pescantina.
The route presents original objects, documents, photographs and scale models. The section on navigation covers boats, shipyards, trade routes and ferries, with a full-size replica of a batel (traditional river boat). Other sections are devoted to mills, both land-based and floating, the cereal-processing cycle, crafts such as carpenters and saddlers, domestic uses of water, fishing and farming, with particular attention to peach cultivation.
The museum is linked to the strada alzaia (towpath), a historical and natural path of several kilometres along the Adige that is regarded as an ecomuseum, and it works with schools and cultural associations in the area.
