Museo multimediale del Bufù

About the museum

The Multimedia Museum of the Bufù opened in December 2005 and is located on the second floor of Casacalenda's town hall, at Corso Roma 78. The project was curated by ethnomusicologist Matteo Patavino.

The bufù is a friction drum and a symbol of Molise folk culture. It is played together with other instruments by small spontaneous groups who, on New Year's Eve (San Silvestro), walk through the streets of the town to greet the end of the year with music and song; on New Year's morning the same groups gather in Piazza Mercato, where they perform their repertoire.

The museum documents this tradition with a multimedia display. It is one of three museums housed in the town hall, together with the Galleria civica d'arte contemporanea “Franco Libertucci” and the Galleria del Giro del Cigno, dedicated to the international cycling race of Casacalenda.
