About the museum
The Museo naturalistico etnografico of the Lago di Posta Fibreno nature reserve was created in 1998 in a converted former primary school in the historic centre of Posta Fibreno, with the aim of preserving and passing on local traditions.
The display is arranged in four rooms. The entrance room reconstructs the lake’s ecosystem with its flora and fauna and presents fossil finds and photo panels on the reserve through the four seasons. The second room gathers the tools used until a few decades ago for work in the fields and for fishing, including the “naue”, a typical fishermen’s boat, and tells the story of the subsistence economy of farmers and fishermen and the skill of local craftsmen.
The third room recreates a traditional village kitchen with period utensils and furniture. In the fourth room are displayed a model of the municipal territory and backlit photo panels on the biodiversity of the protected area.
