About the museum
The Museo Perrando opened on 17 September 1967 on the second floor of Palazzo Perrando, in Via dei Perrando in Sassello. The library, on the first floor, opened on 26 April 1980 and created a cultural centre linked to the town’s tradition. The museum is founded and run by the Associazione Amici del Sassello APS under an agreement with the Comune.
In the palazzo, the ground floor houses a permanent exhibition on material culture with a model of the town and its trades; the first floor houses the library, the historical archive and a children’s library; the second floor has the sections on natural history (with fossils), prehistory, the Middle Ages and art, which includes furnishings, Albisola and Savona ceramics and paintings mainly of the Genoese school of the 17th and 18th centuries. The ethnographic section documents the ironworks and the local amaretti factories. The garden offers an open-air reading room and a space for events.
Since 2014 the museum has expanded with the Nuovo Polo Museale in the former church of the Concezione and the adjoining convent, where the Sala Napoleonica, the Bianchi collection of contemporary art and, since June 2024, the Museo del Dialetto are located.
