About the museum
The Museum San Pantaleo in Martis is part of the diocesan museum system of the Diocese of Tempio-Ampurias, which lists it among the “sacristies”, the smaller sites spread across the territory. It is housed in the oratory of Santa Croce, whose liturgical hall has been reorganised as a route presenting the collections drawn from the long and complex history of Martis.
In the most intimate part of the museum, suspended in a cloud of light, stands the extraordinary small statue of the Dormitio Virginis, dating from the 14th century. The collection includes silk vestments from the 16th to 18th centuries, sacred silverware and ecclesiastical furnishings; among the artworks, the large 15th-century confraternity crucifix stands out, still used today in the Holy Week rites.
The museum is conceived as a place of memory for the community of Martis.
