About the museum
The museum grew out of the rediscovery of Piedmontese aromatic herbs and the aim of highlighting their cultural and economic importance. It is promoted by the association Le Terre dei Savoia, a non-profit network linking 48 municipalities in the provinces of Cuneo, Turin and Asti.
It is located in the Palazzo Taffini d’Acceglio in Savigliano and spreads over two floors. The historical route traces the ancient trade routes of oils and spices between Europe and the East, and the evolution of perfumery from the Middle Ages to Eau de Cologne, passing through Byzantium, Venice, Tuscany and Piedmont.
Alongside the historical works are site-specific installations by international artists on the theme of essences. An interactive laboratory with 18 multimedia stations, developed with the DISAFA of the University of Turin, lets visitors experiment with creating perfumes.
