About the museum
Palazzo Muratori Cravetta stands in the Contrada Jerusalem, once nicknamed the “Painted Contrada” (Contrada dipinta) for its frescoed façades along the processional routes. It was formed by joining three noble residences, the Corvo, Tapparelli and Muratori houses, and has hosted distinguished guests such as Francesco I di Francia and Carlo V. Its present form is due to the Cravetta family, who remodelled it between the 17th century and the early 18th century; Duke Carlo Emanuele I died here in 1630.
The most celebrated feature is the honour courtyard (cortile d’onore), an outstanding example of Piedmontese late Renaissance architecture, with frescoes, stucco work and busts of the House of Savoy. On the ground floor, a room with a coffered ceiling can be visited. The historic garden was restored in 2006 with a design inspired by the Renaissance and Mannerism.
The palace often hosts exhibitions and events; it is part of the Castelli Aperti circuit and the Cultura Card scheme.
