About the museum
The gallery grew out of the bequest of the historian and jurist Vincenzo Bindi, who on his death in 1928 left the Municipality of Giulianova a part of the palace on Corso Garibaldi and his collection of about 400 works of art. The display opened to the public in 1978 in Bindi’s apartment on the second floor of the palace, restored in 2005, where furnishings that belonged to the scholar are also preserved.
The core is formed by paintings of the Posillipo School, gathered thanks to Bindi’s marriage to the daughter of the painter Consalvo Carelli, with works by Anton Sminck van Pitloo, Giacinto Gigante, Consalvo and Raffaele Carelli. Paintings by 19th-century Abruzzese artists are added, such as Pasquale Celommi, the Palizzi brothers, Teofilo Patini, Raffaello Pagliaccetti and Francesco Paolo Michetti.
The Biblioteca civica Vincenzo Bindi, which comes from the same bequest, is housed in the same palace. The gallery is part of the Polo Museale Civico di Giulianova, which also offers educational activities for schools.
