About the museum
The Pinacoteca comunale di Treia is set up on the piano nobile (main floor) of the Palazzo di Città, on Piazza della Repubblica, in the Sala del Consiglio (Council Chamber), the Sala degli Stemmi (Hall of Coats of Arms) and other rooms. The core of the collection consists largely of sacred paintings from religious bodies suppressed after Italian unification.
The route includes portraits from the 17th to the 19th century of members of the Treia nobility, and works by Pietro Tedeschi (18th century), Antonio Balestra and Agostino Bonisoli (17th century). The most imposing piece is a canvas by Bonisoli dated 1673, about six by five metres, depicting the martyrdom of the Franciscan protomartyrs at the hands of the King of Morocco; the painting has recently been restored.
The rooms also contain 19th-century furnishings, including benches, two walnut canterani (chests of drawers), an Empire-style fortepiano of Viennese origin and a two-seater sofa. A 360° virtual tour is available on the website of the Treia museums.
