About the museum
The exhibition is housed on the first floor of the historic Latvijas Banka Kuldīga branch building (Bank of Latvia) on Dzirnavu iela. It makes it possible to see objects that are otherwise not on display and at the same time to explore the interior of this richly decorated building. The exhibits characterise the history of Central Kurzeme from the arrival of the first people to the present day.
The exhibition consists of six thematic stories: the history of money and the Latvijas Banka Kuldīga branch in the former operations hall, with a numismatic collection; archaeological finds with an emphasis on the Curonian heritage and Veckuldīga; traditional way of life in Central Kurzeme; the development of Kuldīga’s townscape; chests in the former bank safe room; and a three-hundred-year overview of the museum’s collections.
