About the museum
The museum is housed in a two-storey house in Alytus, on A. Matučio Street, where the poet Anzelmas Matutis lived from 1961. He was a master of short poems, the most childlike of poets, and wrote more than 30 books.
In January 1987 the writer's legacy was reviewed and registered; in 1988 permission was obtained to set up a museum in the house, and in 1989 the Anzelmo Matučio vaikų literatūros muziejus (Anzelmas Matutis Children's Literature Museum) began to operate. In 1991 it was handed over to the Alytaus kraštotyros muziejus (Alytus Local History Museum) and later renamed a memorial museum.
Visitors can see the writer's house, his study on the first floor with a view of the forest, archive material and a gallery of event photographs. The museum preserves the writer's archival and memorial legacy, including about 700 of his letters.
