About the museum
The collection of hammers was built up over many years by Antanas Kibickas, head of the Utena publishing company, who lives in Linkmenys. In 2015 he donated the collection to Ignalina district municipality, and the museum exhibition in the building of the Linkmenys eldership and community opened on 18 May 2015. Under the donation agreement the collection may not be split up or distributed, but it may be added to.
The exhibition occupies three small halls: in one the history of the hammer is told, in another the variety of hammers of different professions – watchmakers, geologists, doctors, sculptors, firefighters, shoemakers – is shown, and the third is dominated by blacksmiths' hammers. The museum is presented by the custodians of the collection, who tell the stories of the exhibits live.
