About the museum
The Šiaulių geležinkelio muziejus (Šiauliai Railway Museum) was founded on 4 September 1971, marking the 100th anniversary of the Šiauliai railway. Its initiator was the then head of the Šiauliai railway station, Aronas Petuchovskis. The museum is a branch of the Geležinkelių muziejus of AB “Lietuvos geležinkeliai” (Lithuanian Railways).
After reconstruction, the museum moved into the premises of the railway infrastructure branch on Dubijos gatvė. The updated exhibition was opened to visitors at the end of 2025. The first hall tells the story of the Šiauliai railways from 1871, when the railway station was built and the first train arrived; photographs, documents, tools of track workers, communications staff and electricians, uniforms of railway workers from different periods, awards and moments from their leisure time are displayed.
The second hall presents today's railway infrastructure and the only operating railway model in the Šiauliai region. In total about 6,000 exhibits are held by the museum.
The outdoor exhibition began to be collected in 2004 and covers 13 ha. It includes the narrow-gauge steam locomotive PT4-153 and the broad-gauge steam locomotive L-0106, tracked tractors, draisines (inspection trolleys), a narrow-gauge wagon, a section of track, a points-switching mechanism and wooden telegraph poles.
