About the museum
The house was built in 1925–1927 to a design by architect Karolis Reisonas by lawyer Kazimieras Venclauskis and actress and director Stanislava Venclauskienė. The family lived there until 1944; they raised more than a hundred abandoned and impoverished children. In the interwar period, local residents often called the building the White Palace (Baltieji rūmai).
In 1955 the house was handed over to the Aušros muziejus, where history, ethnography and art exhibitions were later displayed. In 1991 the Venclauskis daughters, Danutė and Gražbylė, donated the building to the museum on condition that it always remain open to the public. The building was restored in 2019.
On the ground floor, different wall decorations survive in each room: stencilled painting in the Art Nouveau and national styles. The exhibition presents the life of the Venclauskis family and the history of Šiauliai in the first half of the 20th century. Outside is the Našlaičių sodas (Orphans' Garden) with a children's playground.
