About the museum

The Zarasų krašto muziejus (Zarasai Regional Museum) is a municipal budgetary institution taking part in shaping the cultural heritage policy of Zarasai district. It is the largest store of movable heritage in the Zarasai region: more than 20,000 exhibits are kept here, including the main collections on the history and ethnic culture of the region.

The main exhibition is in Zarasai, on D. Bukonto Street. The museum also runs several branches with their own addresses and opening hours: the Stelmužės muziejus (Stelmužė Museum), the Kazimiero Būgos memorialinis muziejus (Kazimieras Būga Memorial Museum) in Pažiegė, the Kraštiečių muziejus (Kraštiečiai Museum) and the Šarūno Saukos ir Nomedos Saukienės galerija (Šarūnas Sauka and Nomeda Saukienė Gallery) in Zarasai, and a crafts centre at the Antazavė manor with an exhibition on Emilija Pliaterytė.

Visitors are offered exhibitions and temporary exhibitions, guide services, educational sessions, demonstrations and training in traditional crafts.
