Folkenborg museum

About the museum

Folkenborg museum is an open-air museum in Mysen in Indre Østfold. The buildings in the area show local history in an agricultural community dating back to the 1700s, and the site is linked to King Håkon Håkonsson, who ruled Norway from 1217 to 1263. According to the museum, his life story began here.

The museum was previously part of Østfoldmuseene. From 1 January 2025 Stiftelsen Folkenborg museum has taken over the day-to-day running, public activities, communication and the management of the buildings and outdoor areas. Østfoldmuseene retains ownership of the cultural-historical collections and responsibility for them, and the two foundations cooperate closely.

The area includes, among other things, Kirkebylåven, which is used for events and rentals, and Narvestadtunet. The museum arranges, among other things, the Christmas market "Jul på Folkenborg" with the buildings open.
