About the museum
Spydeberg prestegård is a place where visitors can encounter important parts of Norwegian history from the 1700s and 1800s. The farm is linked to the priest and scholar Jacob N. Wilse and to the events of 1814, when Norway received its constitution.
The site’s history includes, among other things, Christian Frederik, the constitutional struggle in Østfold, the Spydeberg Council of State (Spydebergstatsrådet), the battles at Askim and the Moss Convention (Mossekonvensjonen). The farm includes Wilse’s garden, with a register of its plants, and the friends association shares, among other things, Wilse’s calendar, travel accounts and descriptions of Spydeberg.
The rectory is run by Stiftelsen Spydeberg Prestegård, which has no employees. The board and the friends association are responsible for visiting days, events and the hire of the premises.
