About the museum
The Archeologické múzeum Veľkej Moravy v Bojnej (Archaeological Museum of Great Moravia in Bojná) was established by the municipality in 2012, in cooperation with the Archaeological Institute in Nitra, as a museum exhibition registered at the Slovak National Museum. It built on a permanent archaeological exhibition that the municipality had opened in the cultural house in 2007.
The exhibition presents several hundred finds from the surrounding hillforts. The most valuable are early Christian monuments from the beginning of the 9th century, especially a set of six gilded relief plaques from a portable altar, and a bell with an iron heart (clapper), discovered in 1997. Finds from Bojná were exhibited in the Vatican Museums in 2013–2014.
The display cases also contain jewellery, parts of military equipment, agricultural and craft tools, hrivny (Slavic ingots, which served as currency at the time) and Slavic pottery, which show everyday life in Great Moravia.
