About the museum
Bunker B-S 8 Hřbitov dates from the 1930s and was part of the Czechoslovak defence system of the Bratislava bridgehead in Petržalka. The infantry block was built roughly in the middle of the defence line. It was the largest and most heavily armed heavy structure in Bratislava and the only one that was a full equivalent of the heavy structures built at that time at other points on the Czechoslovak border to defend against Germany. It is a two-storey building.
Since 2008 volunteers from the civic association Zachráňme petržalské bunkre (Let's Save the Petržalka Bunkers) have been dedicated to its rescue and reconstruction. Today the military museum of the Czechoslovak army is housed here.
The bunker stands in close proximity to a First World War military cemetery, in which 331 soldiers are buried. The cemetery was established in 1916 as part of the military hospital in Kittsee for wounded soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian army.
