About the museum
The house stands on a site that local residents called Žabáreň. The oldest part of the building probably dates from the end of the 18th century; a date on a mešternica (a timber element) uncovered during the reconstruction in 1979–1980 points to the year 1831. Until 1972 it served as a family house, and its last owner was Imrich Kuna.
The District National Committee in Galanta bought the house with its courtyard and garden, without the interior furnishings, and handed it over to the then district local history museum in Galanta, which set up an ethnographic exhibition there. It opened the exhibition to the public in 1979. In 2008 the monument passed to the administration of the Ponitrianske múzeum (Ponitra Museum) in Nitra.
The building is a valuable record of local architecture: remnants of the wattle walls and the sochová (carved) roof-truss construction, which occurred in the south of Slovakia, have been preserved. The exhibition presents folk housing and peasant farming in south-western Slovakia, with objects from the collections of the Galanta museum from Šaľa, Diakovce, Kráľová nad Váhom and Dlhá nad Váhom.
