About the museum
The manor house is the last surviving secular part of the medieval town castle in Stropkov, which has disappeared. The castle was built in the 15th century by the Perényi family and flourished under the Peteovci (Pete family), who resided there. It had a pentagonal ground plan with five towers, a parish church and, at its core, a manorial residence. After the castle declined at the end of the 18th century, its walls were gradually taken apart for building material.
The manor house has been significantly rebuilt several times. The most valuable room is the knights' hall (rytierska sieň) with preserved Renaissance heraldic elements. The building is owned by the town of Stropkov, which provided the ground floor and the attic for museum purposes to the Krajské múzeum v Prešove.
Today the museum operates exhibitions of sacral art from the region, a collection of dolls and a permanent exhibition of works by the regional painter František Veselý.
