About the museum
The Ľudovít Fulla Gallery in Ružomberok is a branch of the Slovak National Gallery. The building from 1969 is a national cultural monument and was created not only to preserve and present the work of one of the most important Slovak fine artists of the 20th century, but also as the place where Fulla lived and worked. Visitors thus entered the authentic setting of the artist's home and studio.
The gallery offered a permanent exhibition of Fulla's work, a reconstructed artist's flat, a garden, and a reminder of Fulla's tomb. It closed to the public in 2022, when diagnostics revealed an emergency technical condition of the building, including impaired structural stability in part of the building, a damaged roof and leaks. The artworks were therefore moved to the storage facilities of the Slovak National Gallery.
Reconstruction began in June 2026 with the handover of the building to the contractor and is to last about 24 months. The glass-mosaic façade and the original architectural elements are to be restored, so that the building comes as close as possible to its 1969 appearance. After completion, the collection objects and works by Ľudovít Fulla will return to the gallery.
