About the museum
Vlkolínec is a foothill village of ironworkers, shepherds and woodcutters below Veľká Fatra (Great Fatra), with preserved timber log architecture. The houses are built in the Liptov manner from hewn coniferous logs on a stone base, with shingle roofs and a lime-based colour wash. The village was declared a heritage reserve of folk architecture and in 1993 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Several residents still live there.
The Liptovské múzeum manages the Roľnícky dom a dvor here: a traditional three-room log house with farm buildings. In the front room the original furnishings include a bed, a cradle, a chest, a table and traditional clay vessels; in the barn there is an exhibition on agriculture in Liptov. The Ľudový dom, Sýpka and Galéria Vlkolínec are also open to visitors.
