About the museum
The museum is part of the János Esterházy Pilgrimage Centre in Dolné Obdokovce, below Zobor. It commemorates Count János Esterházy, a politician of the Hungarian minority in Slovakia, who died on 8 March 1957 in the prison in Mírov. His urn was placed on 16 September 2017 in a tomb by the Chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on the hill above the village. A Krížová cesta vernosti (Way of the Cross of Loyalty) leads from the museum in the valley to it.
The interior of the museum was prepared by teachers of a partner school from Szombathely, and the exhibits are arranged chronologically. Count Esterházy's daughter, Alice Esterházy-Malfatti, donated to the museum personal items of her father from prison – a prayer book, glasses and a rosary – as well as original liturgical vestments and equipment from the chapel of the manor house in Veľké Záluží. The museum also includes a reception and lecture hall, where souvenirs and books about János Esterházy are sold.
