About the museum
The Múzeum Podzoboria was opened in early August 2017 by the couple Alexander Fehér and Iveta Fehér Pindešová. It is a registered museum facility and the first of its kind in the region. It is housed in part of the premises of the Private Secondary School with Hungarian as the language of instruction in Dolné Obdokovce, and it is independent of direct financial support from the state, foundations or EU funds.
The founders have been building the collection for decades from their own finds, donations and purchases at auctions and fairs. The museum presents selected objects from the private collection and focuses on the nature, history and traditional culture of Podzobor, and in places also on the wider area of Nitra and Tekov.
The exhibition includes minerals, fossils and rocks of the Nitra and Tekov counties, a herbarium of plants of the Zobor Hills, a zoological collection, examples of archaeological finds from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages, historical documents, a collection of engravings of Nitra and surrounding castles from the 17th–19th centuries, postcards, stamped bricks and Nitra painted porcelain. Costumes and traditional folk crafts, relics of church life and the culture of Jewish communities around Nitra are presented separately. The museum also organises events, such as the Night of Museums, and programmes for children.
