About the museum
The Múzeum Senica functions as a regional museum focused on archaeology, history, ethnography, art, nature and the personalities of Senica and its surroundings. In 2017 the town of Senica bought the last building of historical significance preserved in its territory, in order to set up a municipal museum in it. It is the 19th-century garden pavilion (letohrádok) of the large-estate owner Ištván Vagyon, which for a long time served as a Sokol hall (Sokolovňa).
Within the Česká cesta project, financed from the Interreg V-A Slovakia – Czech Republic programme, the building was comprehensively reconstructed so that it regained the original appearance of the pavilion. It is a national cultural monument and stands in a garden park bounded by Štefánikova, Fajnorova and Hollého streets. The founder of the museum is the Mestské kultúrne stredisko Senica (Senica Municipal Cultural Centre).
Three permanent exhibitions take the visitor from prehistory, through the period when Senica arose on the Česká cesta, to life in the town in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. The exhibition Stará Senica (Old Senica) shows a 3D model of the historic town centre from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries at a scale of 1:100, and the archaeological exhibition documents settlement of the area from the Older Stone Age. The museum also runs Škodáček's roller mill (Škodáčkov valcový mlyn) in the Čáčov district.
