About the museum
At Vogrsko there is a unique hiding place, the bunker Pr' Barabonu, which was used by the organisers of the National Liberation Struggle (NOB) in Primorska. The special feature of the bunker is its entrance through the movable firebox of a wood-burning stove. During the NOB the farm was one of the central points where the first patriots and activists for the liberation of Primorska gathered; Primorska had been annexed to Italy by the Treaty of Rapallo in 1920.
The bunker was built to store ham, flour and similar goods, which the Italian authorities confiscated for the army, but it was never used for that purpose. In 1939 the owner Peter Fornazarič began distilling brandy there, which was banned or strictly controlled under Italian rule.
In March 1943 the bunker was betrayed, but the occupiers never discovered it, mainly because of the carefully concealed entrance. Electricity was installed in the bunker; it had a drain and a ventilation shaft routed through the chimney of the stove. On barely 9 m² six or more activists could meet; from here the idea and the organisation of the Osvobodilna fronta spread across the whole of Primorska. On the façade of the house there has been a memorial plaque since 1951 commemorating the founding of the Pokrajinski komite KPS za Slovensko Primorje in 1942.
