About the museum

The museum in the old school in Šempas is dedicated to Mehdi Huzejnad – Mihajlo, National Hero of Azerbaijan. He was born in 1918 in Baku and studied painting and linguistics at the university in St Petersburg. As a soldier of the Red Army he was wounded and captured in the Battle of Stalingrad; as a soldier of the Turkestan Legion he came to Trieste and in February 1944 joined the partisans.

As a good expert on the German army and language, he became a successful saboteur. He fell in Vitovlje at the end of 1944 and was buried in Čepovan.

The museum displays his early artworks, photographs, military equipment and many objects that visitors from Azerbaijan bring with them when they come.
