About the museum
The writer Miško Kranjec was born on 15 September 1908 in Velika Polana. He wrote more than fifty novels, short stories and novellas, including about the local people and his home village. For several years he was president of the Društvo slovenskih pisateljev (Slovenian Writers’ Association) and a full member of the SAZU (Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts). A primary school in the village is also named after him.
On his farmstead there is a space designed as a combination of a memorial room (the writer’s study with a library), a gallery with his paintings and photographs, and a room about the writer’s birthplace. On display are a collection of the writer’s works, translations, personal documents and props from his hobbies. The farmstead is also a tourist information centre (TIC ŠTRK) and the starting point of Miškova pot (Miško’s Path), which leads to his wine cellar (zidanica) in the Lendavske gorice (Lendava Hills).
In July 2026, as part of the Miško ALIVE project, the comprehensive renovation of the farmstead began. The authentic architecture will be preserved, and a modern multimedia permanent exhibition accessible all year round, an outdoor cinema, a guest apartment and adaptations for deaf, blind and mobility-impaired visitors will be created.
