About the museum
The Hiša Györgya Dobronokija (György Dobronoki House) opened in 2006. It is named after a Jesuit teacher and the first rector of the University of Trnava, who lived in Dobrovnik in the 17th century. Visitors enter through large wooden gates and, with the old documents on display, go back in time: they learn about the life of György Dobronoki and the history of the parish and the Church of St James. Clothing, antique furniture and photographs reveal the former life and customs of the inhabitants.
In October 2026 a thoroughly renovated permanent exhibition and an extended outbuilding were solemnly opened. The attic and cellar were arranged, and the exhibition was enriched with digital content that appeals to younger generations too. The investment was financed by the Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development; the exhibition’s expert author is the ethnologist Jakab Ferkov.
In the courtyard of the house, the House of Crafts has been operating since 2018. It is dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of the bilingual region and reviving former home crafts. On display are products made of bast fibre, wicker and other natural materials, gingerbread and Easter eggs decorated using batik technique; workshops, exhibitions and lectures are also held.
