About the museum

At Bojanji Vrh, a long-drawn-out village in Dolenjska (Lower Carniola) in the middle of undulating karst terrain, numerous ethnological objects from the collection of Štefan and Anica Nose are on display under a characteristic toplar kozolec (hayrack), in its surroundings and in a nearby granary. The collection consists of objects and tools that were in use from the second half of the 19th century to the beginning of the second half of the 20th century.

The collection began to take shape at the turn of the millennium, when the couple wanted to preserve the disappearing Slovenian heritage. The first objects came from the home villages of the collection's caretakers; later they bought more in the surrounding villages, and some people brought objects themselves. In June 2002 Anica and Štefan Nose erected a toplar, a symbol of Slovenian identity, at Bojanji Vrh and displayed objects and tools under it and beside it. Because of lack of space they built a granary in 2008.

The display includes agricultural tools (a wooden plough, ploughs, harrows, a mower, threshers, a grain cleaner), craft and artisan tools (tailoring, shoemaking, joinery, carpentry, blacksmithing) and household items (earthenware and cast-iron vessels, grinders and a coffee roaster, a pinja, irons, lamps, baskets).
